Description - A comprehensive builders manual, in three parts, heavily used in colonial America, obviously with great success judging by the resullts. XII + 128 + XXVIII. 37 copper plates, most folding. Part the First pp 1-78 contains such Geometrical Definitions and Problems, as are necessary to be known by those who are desirous to understand the Art of Building. Part the Second pp 79-109 containing the Five Orders of Columns in Architecture. Part the Third pp 110-128 containing descriptions of Stair Cases, Twisted Rails and Roof constructions. Proof that this was a serious work comes in the Builders Dictionary, the last 28pp, where 'Fornication' in architecture id described as an arching, or vaulting. Recently rebound in three quarter calf with raised bands and marbled boards. Minimal restoration to pages and plates necessary.
