Merchantmen were better prepared in the Second World War as a result of their experiences in the First. This is the personal record during WW2 of Captain Sir David Bone (1874-1959) who begain his sea service on Windjammers in Australia in 1890. He joined Anchor Line in 1899 where he ended up as Commodore and retired in 1946.
